It doesn't work. If you're falling at 100 mph and you can jump off a chair at 10 mph, you're still going 90 and you're still going to go splat. And even then, as you're heavier than the chair, you're probably going to send it hurtling downwards faster, and you will still be falling at ~100 mph.

Vlim = g/f where g is the acceleration due to gravity and f the coefficient in friction_force = f*v

if f is large enough then your linear momentum won't be very big and you won't 'splotch' on the ground.
