it seems unnecessarily difficult. and I mean the concepts are easy... the math to do them is fuckking hell.

the great beast of Physics..Kinematics.. in fact, there was a physicist who once said "there is a place in purgatory reserved for physicist who side with quantum theory, where they must teach kinematics every day for 10 hour lectures.."

sounds like you aren't using engineer methods of doing the math. You see pic related? It's a modular robot made up of a hella-ton of linkages. The math to position an end effector on a very high dof mechanism like pic related is hard, but do able.
