I really don't understand this one. Why are americans so fervently christian or even fundamentalist?

I live in a country that sadly has a higher precentage of christians than the US, however the majority of them don't really care about religion that much, except for a few traditional ceremonies (holidays, marriage, child birth, ...), religion barely affects their lifes at all, they almost never go to church, except on some holidays or traditional events. Some of the older people are more religious, however I rarely see any of the younger population attend church or even be bothered about commiting all the fictional sins mentioned in the Bible (they do of course have their own morals and ethics which allow them to function in society). They will state they are Christian, but this has hardly any bearing on what they do. Why are the the American Chrisitians so much more fervent in their beliefs? On the other hand, I did encounter a handful of Jehova's Witnesses which were a lot more fervent, but that's about it.

I also forgot to mention that most that had an eduction believe in the Theory of Evolution and the Big Bang, and I never seen a single child talk creationist bullshit when I was in school, even though the majority identify as Christian (since that's what their parents are, and so on). lots of people hate Americans, hell, international consensus is that they're arrogant, fat, and stupid, only thing that people hang onto is the music, food (fast food), games, and perhaps fashion, all of which dont represent America in essence, but happen to be the locale of production.
