I... I'm not sure how to feel about this...

It's the truth.

Those kids who shun science and math because its "boring" or "for nerds" in high school and college, if they even go to college, will find themselves emailing youtube videos to their friends at the cubicle farm of people doing insane things with science, simply because the people in those youtube videos paid attention and applied their knowledge.

You do realise that for every independent scientist exploring the very fringes of human knowledge, there are thousands of lab drones who have to perform tasks that are far more thankless, less paid and more mundane than even an accountant in a cubical farm, right?

Most college-education scientists are actually doing research, though. Maybe not always the most exciting of work, but work that contributes to the discoveries of new stuff.

Lab drones tend to have a lower level of education, at least over here.

>you are now aware you have a much better chance of becoming a professional athlete than a research scientist at the top of his field

Your days will likely consist of trying to provide enough value to an employer that you are able to pay your bills, and not traveling on an epic journey of novel discoveries and interesting problems.

>Most college-education scientists are actually doing research

Nope.

>40 per cent say they carry out research “most of the time”.

>94 per cent say they use their research skills in their work

Maybe it's not direct research, then, but it's certainly not the same as being a "lab drone".

They're not riding T-Rexs they cloned that's for fucking sure. 99% of science is fucking boring, to pretend like if you only study hard enough you can ride a T-Rex or do anything cool is just disingenuous.

>doing insane things with science

Hey guys check out this Youtube video! Watch the guy in the white coat, man I wish I did science at school...wait for it...whoa, check it out! He just got a 95% confidence interval in his Minitab readout that actually confirms that Protein 3813b may be implicated in the role of gastrointestinal ulcers in mice! Awesome.

I never said "insane things". I said "contributing to new discoveries".
