Let's get a chiropractic hate thread up in this bitch.

Chiropractic is a pseudo-science based on vitalism, a sort of religion of the spine. D.D. Palmer compared himself to Jesus when he created his philosophy of adjusting spines. The "vertebral subluxations" of the spine he envisioned do not exist and do not contribute to any known disease.

Chiropractors adjust patients who do not need treatment and X-ray patients unnecessarily. They often oppose public health measures such as vaccination and water fluoridation. Many engage in unethical advertising practices to build business. They downplay the risk of stroke involved in manipulating the cervical spine.

These quacks have no place in the world of scientific medicine.

If cutting up peoples heads and shoving electrodes into their heads to "treat them" much like hitler treated the jews is medicine then this is medicine too!

Spinal adjustment is not necessary for good health. Many chiropractors' claims are not scientifically valid.

That's not what I meant, I meant that before synthetic medicine, there was a vast array of natural treatments that doctors studied, aspirin from pine needles, for example, that worked! And these types of medicines worked and had been used in practice in many cultures (native and foreign). While many and probably most didn't work, there were some that did, and while I'm not saying that all synthetic medicine is bad, I'm saying there's stuff left behind that people don't study anymore. That's all. There should never be prejudice in science, ever. Make your mind up with scientific conclusions, not academic dogma.

We've lost the human element of medicine and it's now sadistic and sterile. This needs to change.

I know a chiropractor who, after years of experience, has concluded that all the adjustments and other chiro stuff is bullshit. Really, he's now a physiotherapist who puts the word "chiropractor" on his business because it brings in more people. He gets really pissed off at people who say that cracking spines fixes anything.

It came from willow bark. And you a romantic moron.

The 'natural remedies' have been tested. The ones that are actually effective become what you call 'synthetic medicine'.

If you want to argue for the case of Chiropractic, let's see some evidence that isn't based on anecdotes.

my chiropractor saved the lives of my wife and son. Wife was pregnant, had a headache, went to see the chiropractor.

he suspects preeclampsia, checks her blood pressure, and drives her to the hospital. Calls me on the way, and I meet them just in time to see my wife flown out on a helicopter for treatment in a bigger hospital.

He may prey on the gullible, though if it works for people I see it as beneficial. He undoubtedly cares about his patients though, and is aware enough to recognize when there's a serious problem. For that alone I happily pay for my wife's visits to his office.
