gotta question guys. not troll physics either. so, if you wanted to make a space elevator, you would need a way to pull it up. i may has an idea. so, the rope in the middle is made of kevlar or something, something super strong. the pipes on the outside are made out of carbon fiber or some shit, and are externally splined so the gears at the top satilite catch and pull the pipes up. could this work guys? if not, lets figure out something that would be better.

No.

How old are you?

>> No.2285258

Not to discourage you but... People a lot smarter than you, who have taken relevant courses in university have probably already thought of that and dismissed it.

No material currently existing on Earth is strong enough to create a space elevator. Since it's an incredibly long cord goign against earth's gravity vertically, it'll pull itself apart.

>No material currently existing on Earth is strong enough to create a space elevator.
Well... not one on Earth, anyways.

>> No.2285272

Why do you think the satellite wouldn't be pulled towards earth instead? Who would want a space elevator?

>> No.2285297

>>2285272
a space elevator would make it possible for a permanent base in space that would allow space crafts to not have to take off from earths surface and instead could stay in orbit. Or at least thats a use NASA could use it for.

but like this person said. >>2285258
there isn't something strong enough yet to withstand the forces that would be put on it.

Me. When you want to begin colonising mars you're going to want some seriously heavy plant equipment and putting them into space with a rocket just isn't feasible.

Why do people want to do this.
We will not colonize mars within the next 100 years unless something drastic happens, even then its doubtful.
This mars bullshit is the same as the moon, IF we end up going there we are gonna say "hey look we did this." and then forget about space for 50 years.
