In most countries, the proportion of top scientists, non-performance artists and businessmen who are Jewish is about 20 times what you'd expect from their population size, even when they are persecuted.

It's a bit more complicated with East Asians because their IQ scores and success in school isn't reflected in their real life achievements or in their success at doing high-level research (compare the number of Jewish Nobel prize winners to the number of Asians). This might be because Jews get their advantage from the verbal part of the test and Asians get their advantage from the performance part (which might contribute to ability to learn things by rote and do high-school level mathematics).

>>still waiting for you to explain how taking away money from hard working people to give it to blacks so they can have more babies which will require more food and money to live, repeating perpetually, is "sustainable living"

I never said it was and don't understand where you're getting that from. Sustainable living is making wise use of natural resources in order to avoid what economists refer to as the tragedy of the commons; the complete depletion of an otherwise resource by multiple parties even though all realize it is not in their best interest to do so.

You seem to be taking random phrases you associate with liberalism and jamming them together to pose what you think is a particularly damning question because you can't understand what liberals actually support, being that you're considerably less intelligent.

Imo, people who are both intelligent and open-minded are strongly selected against. Particularly in pre-civilised times.

People who are both highy intelligent AND highly open-minded will "over-think" "over-worry" and in general not have the same reproductive success as a less intelligent but open-minded person or a more intelligent but closed-mided person.

Jews get to be an exception because they occupied a niche in the population where a combination of both was favoured moreso than it would have been i an ethnic population that didn't ocupy a certain niche in a larger society.

So africans tend to be more creative, asians tend to be more intelligent, caucasias are a mixed bag (which means intelligent and open-minded people do crop up at a low but sustainable level) but only jews (and possibly some castes in india) can have increased levels of both population-wide level.

heck yeah! because controversy empowers the imbecile majority of this planet because if the 'intelligent' people don't hhave the answer then surely it's okay for the stupid people not to know either.

you keep assuming that more than half the earth's population is educated and using only "true information sources" to make decisions with.

IMPORTANT POINT HERE, LIBERTARDS (and no I'm not a conservatard either)

In roughly the past 20 years Exxon has put up over 20 million dollars toward climate research. Over the same period, the US government alone put up over 80 billion. That's a 3000 fold difference.

What do you think is more likely; that private industry is funding the destruction of the entire planet upon which they live and operate or that governments see an opportunity to extend their power to include the very air your breathe and that people like Al Gore and Rajendra Pachauri see an opportunity to make millions and millions of dollars (Protip: they've already both made millions)

I watched the video series. It is the result of a simple analysis of the science. The same simple analysis that leads climatologists to claim cloud cover is a positive feedback system just because they observe less cloud cover when temperatures are higher. (Protip: It's a negative feedback loop)

I don't have any more time for people who look back at the 500 million year geologic time frame, see that CO2 has never driven temperature and then turn around and claim that a tiny amount is driving it now (0.038% of the atmosphere is CO2, 95% of that is naturally occuring)

There's kind of a tiny little difference between the Earth 500 million years ago and the Earth today. Human beings would probably die if sent back to the Earth 500 million years ago. Lrn2have some fucking perspective

>CO2 has never driven temperature

>implying that changes in CO2 cannot cause changes in temperature

This has been verified in laboratory experiments over the past 200 years. Why hasn't CO2 "driven" temperatures in the past? Because there weren't any fucking cars and power plants to release any of that shit. CO2 outgassing occurred when minor changes in temperature, caused by Milankovitch Cycles and other forcings, when then increases the temperature in turn. This is known as a positive feedback.

If the atmosphere was 0.038% was VX gas, I suppose it would be safe for us to breathe. You know, since it's such a small number and all.

There weren't any cars, trains, etc to release gas 500 million years ago, that's right. I wonder how, 450 million years ago, CO2 levels were ten times higher than today... Transforming the economy is usually good. That's what you learn when you start studying history. Maybe when you get to high school...

The economy has always been transforming, it's just better to let the free market decide where it goes. The government should provide the ethical constraints within which the market operates but it should never try to force change.

Oil will never run out. Sorry to break it to you, kids. The US just discovered 100 years worth of natural gas by probing into the ground more extensively. We'll continue to make such discoveries. However, it will become more expensive to harvest and produce and at a certain point the economy will reach a tipping point and we'll have a new energy source peak. Companies will produce new technologies and people will start to switch over because they'll be more financially viable.

What really matters is the sad irony of the fact that while self-centered "leaders" in the west are constantly repeating, over and over, that poorly developed nations are the hardest hit by global warming it is actually those nations that are the hrdest hit by global warming policy.

Demanding they use technologies that EVEN WE WONT USE due to ineffeciency condemns them to a continued third world existence that will then be virtually guaranteed not to change withing their lifetime. So what's your answer to that? Give them money? What, so that their leaders can spend it on themselves like they're already doing with their own country's money? Naive, idiots... Wake up.

As we've already demonstrated, a complete shutdown of all our global industry today would have virtually no effect on continued warming. The doomsday scenario levels of warmth would be reached anyway, so what's the point of what you're doing?

You should just study paleo-climatology and realize that it's been much hotter than even the most insane predictions flying around today and everything was fine. It was 6-8 degrees hotter 5000 years ago and the polar bears survived. What, you figure they evolved since then?

>> No.2282170

>>2282094

Sigh

So you've got an atmosphere. It is compose almost entirely of oxygen and nitrogen. These gases are nearly transparent to longwave radiation. They are not greenhouse gases. You agree with all this, yes?

In 1824, Joseph Fourier calculated the radiative forcing caused by the Sun and discovered a major discrepancy between the Earth's actual temperature and his Sun-only calculation. The Earth's real average surface temperature is about 15 C, but in Fourier's calculation, the Earth should be -18 C. What accounted for the 33 degree difference?

Fourier hypothesized the existence of a class of atmospheric gas that was transparent to incoming shortwave radiation from the Sun, but absorbed outgoing longwave radiation and re-emitted it in all directions as heat. These are what we now call "greenhouse gases."

So that CO2 is 0.038% of the entire Earth's atmosphere is irrelevant to it's influence on Earth's climate. The correct proportion we're dealing with is its percentage of <span class="math">greenhouse~gases
. What matters with CO2 is that it is a long-lived greenhouse gas, with a much longer residency time than water vapour, Water vapour cannot drive temperature changes on its own, since when it becomes saturated it rains or snows. Temperature decides how much water vapour the atmosphere can hold, not the other way around.

Also important is that CO2 is being constantly emitted, on top of existing carbon fluxes. Naturally, the carbon cycle is balanced. Imagine the Earth's atmosphere as a bathtub. The amount of water coming out of the spout is the same as the amount leaving the drain, so the water level is stable. Excess anthropogenic CO2 is like turning on a second tap. The water level in the bathtub will rise.

You've been reading too much Lomborg. Who, by the way, plagiarized large parts of the Skeptical Environmentalist and fabricated data too.

So you've got a poor-ass sub-Saharan African village. It needs electricity. What do you do? Do you build a coal plant a few miles away? Well now I suppose you need to build some roads to get the coal to the plant. Maybe a port too since the coal will probably come from another continent. Then you have to build power lines from the coal plant to the village. And of course you'll need to hire technicians and engineers to build, run, and maintain this infrastructure.

How many years will this take? How many non-African specialists will have to be hired to work on this project? How much will it cost?

Doesn't it make a lot more sense to install a solar panel?

You should also be aware that current CO2 levels are the highest in perhaps the past 15 million years. The rate of CO2 increase is faster than at any point in the past 55 million years, when the PETM caused a minor mass extinction. It is possible that CO2 is increasing now faster than any point in Earth's history.

This has not been demonstrated. And nobody advocates for a "shutdown of all global industry," that is just a strawman.

And it will actually make a difference. Take a look at the wheel on your left. This kind of future practically guarantees a mass extinction. The wheel on the right represents a future in which the possibility still exists, but we've prevented the unimaginable worst-case scenario.

http://globalchange.mit.edu/resources/gamble/

That is not hyperbole. There has literally never been an episode of Earth's history where 7 degrees of warming occurred in the space of a hundred years, except maybe during major impact events. The consequences of 7 degrees of warmth by 2100 (9% chance with no mitigation policy) cannot be foreseen by models or by the paleoclimatic record, except that a mass extinction would be nearly certain.

>"Oil will never run out."

I'm not sure you fully understand the consequences of increasingly expensive oil. It usually takes 25 years for a new technology to gain 1% market share in the energy sector. For people who are actually interested in learning about climate science, there's a number of (non-IPCC) sources that you can learn from.

The first thing you should read is Spencer Weart's book, <span class="math">The~Discovery~of~Global~Warming,
which is available online:

Another great book to start off with is David Archer's <span class="math">Global~Warming:~Understanding~the~Forecast,
which I've made available for download:
