hey, when you think about it, there could be dinosaurs on an exoplanet with high-oxygen content. i mean, if the planet is similar size to earth and we assume life develops in similar phases like here, it's possible. :)

>> No.2244901

Dont be shy OP, we can discuss some real dinosaur paleontology here...

Like was Holtz correct in establishing his Tyrannosauroidea entirely on synapomorphic characters, and in particular considering the D shaped anterior PM's as diagnostic when Madson clearly states in his 1976 monograph that A. fragilis shares the same morphology?

And how about that recent find of an allosauroid with feathers? mixes up our phylogenies a bit, now doesn't it?

That would be interesting.

But its more of me just losing interest in dinosaurs and finding Astronomy more fulfilling.

Basically wish i had the same feeling i had about dinosaurs as i did before.

But it won't ever happen.

It's pretty awesome how much concepts about dinosaurs has changed in just the 30 years I've been around. My earliest dino books had passages about the big bastards like Brontosaurus/Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, or Brachiosaurus spending most of their time in lakes or swamps to support their body weight, how they're all cold-blooded, they're about as smart as rocks, and how they mysteriously died out.

Now we've got warm-blooded, feathered dinos, some of which were dog-level smart, wiped out by an asteroid impact in Mexico, and left birds as descendants.

What will we know about them in another 30 years?

It is amazing how fast things got rolling...

I'm a dinosaur paleontologist, I keep a large collection of old dino books just to giggle at the inaccuracies. I love the pictures of tails dragging on the ground, or statements like "dinosaurs are a group of mostly unrelated giant reptiles."

Ah the good old days when dinosaurs weren't all related!

I don't know what'll turn up in the future, but I expect almost everything we think we know about theropod systematics is wrong. A lot of the current knowledge is still quite speculative, and it will certainly change.
