You are now aware that Richard Dawkins was molested by an Anglican priest while he was serving as an altar boy, which explains why he's so butthurt at religion.

>> No.2239454

You are now aware that Richard Dawkins has fond memories of the Anglican church and is good friends with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

>> No.2239469

You are now aware that Richard Dawkins describes himself as a "cultural Christian" and spends most of his time battling Islam.

I'm not sure I would say that... Yes he probably feels Islam is more dangerous today, but he doesn't pull any punches with christianity either.

Holy fucking shit. He WAS molested.

http://richarddawkins.net/articles/118-religion-39-s-real-child-abuse

>Happily I was spared the misfortune of a Roman Catholic upbringing (Anglicanism is a significantly less noxious strain of the virus). Being fondled by the Latin master in the Squash Court was a disagreeable sensation for a nine-year-old, a mixture of embarrassment and skin-crawling revulsion, but it was certainly not in the same league as being led to believe that I, or someone I knew, might go to everlasting fire. As soon as I could wriggle off his knee, I ran to tell my friends and we had a good laugh, our fellowship enhanced by the shared experience of the same sad pedophile. I do not believe that I, or they, suffered lasting, or even temporary damage from this disagreeable physical abuse of power. Given the Latin Master's eventual suicide, maybe the damage was all on his side.

It all makes sense now. The hate, the rage, the condescending tone.

I could of course be wrong, but seriously, the guy wants us to give him evidence of child molestation as thats the only possible way some british guy would lift some juicy stuff from Sagan's god hypothesis add his own twist and give established crack pot religions the finger.

Wrong. Look closer and you'll see a pair of closing quotes and a reference to the woman's plight as Dawkins begins his testimony. This still makes it hard for me to believe he was indeed molested and that he isn't coming up with some bullshit to highlight his point.

I wonder is you ever consider these statements all the way through. "Kill" is a very strong word. Because fanatical atheism can be as ugly as religious fanaticism.

Let us hope you don't give this a literal interpretation.

How exactly is it character assassination when we are discussing how the man openly tries to garner sympathy for his cause by making up stories about being molested by the clergy?
And don't even give me that Assange pic, he was rightfully charged with sexual misconduct thanks to two women he should never have trusted.

>> No.2239788

>>2239782
Yes. It's metaphorical. It has to be. You can't kill an intangible thing like the church. So, we're left with "kill all members of the church" or "end the organization that is the church, such as disbanding it". I think it's relatively clear that I just want the organization gone, not the people.

However, if all such deluded people just suddenly disappeared, I wouldn't mind. It would be good for the rest of us.

The difference is that the evil theists say they do their evil because god tells them to. No atheist has ever said "Well, god doesn't exist, so that means I need to kill you now."

Correlation does not prove causation. However, when people say why they're doing what they're doing, that tends to be pretty persuasive evidence in most cases for causation.

>implying Stalin didn't grow up with religion.
Growing up with religion has little to do with actually being religious, and really believing it. Saddam Hussein paid lip service to religion all his life out of necessity. But he modeled his career after Stalin and rose to power the same way. Someone who really believes in an eternal state of reward and punishment isn't going to live his life that way.
