"The popular stereotype of the researcher is that of a skeptic and a pessimist. Nothing could be further from the truth! Scientists must be optimists at heart, in order to block out the incessant chorus of those who say "It cannot be done."

>> No.2220158

Well, I'm one hell of a skeptic researcher, and while I'm not a pessimist, I'm no optimist either.
What now?

The genetic code does not, and cannot, specify the nature and position of every capillary in the body or every neuron in the brain. What it can do is describe the underlying fractal pattern which creates them. Remember, genes are NOT blueprints. This means you can't, for example, insert "the genes for an elephant's trunk" into a giraffe and get a giraffe with a trunk. There are no genes for trunks. What you CAN do with genes is chemistry, since DNA codes for chemicals. For instance, we can in theory splice the native plants' talent for nitrogen fixation into a terran plant.

I can't be the only one that thinks this looks like a future version of Michio Kaku.

skeptic yes. pessimist no.

Also Provost Zakharov is the best leader alpha centauri ever had.

LONG LIVE THE UNIVERSITY!

It would be awesome if Kaku led a faction...

I'm a pessimist. I keep telling myself it's never going to work until I stumble on the proof. Then I go to a conference and spend an hour telling everyone how this is probably a dead end path. Repeat next year.

Watch what you say about her, she's the best friend the university has!

Seriously, she kept giving me level 4 research in exchange for my level 2's. More than Miriam would do.

Well, not as much as Santiago or Miriam, but they are real bitches.

The fuck bitch? When I play as Zakharov I am practically light years ahead of everyone else technologically. What I do get from other factions is some delicious energy funds in exchange for some research I did 20 turns ago. Also all Miriam gets reasonably quickly are copters, nothing else.
