i have a pretty weak trig background. what sorcery is this?

That shit doesn't make sense. Is "sin" supposed to be "x"? And is there supposed to be a "such that" in there somewhere?

It is dangerous to go alone take this.

sln is solutions.
find all solutions in the interval of 0 to 2pi

shut up, you didn't even know you could do multiple initializations in a C for-loop.

>> No.2200510

factrise to cos x (cos (x) -2) = 0

cos x = 0 or cos (x) = 2

second has no real values

so cos x = 0 is solved as x = pi/2 and 2pi/2 or 90, 270 in degrees

if you want sin of those values you have 1 and -1

only an engineer would memorize all these rules and not derive them from euler's formula

And this problem doesn't even need these identities.

let u = cos(x). You'll get a nice quadratic equation in terms of u.

>> No.2200515

>>2200510
typo. should be 3pi/2 not 2pi/2

>> No.2200514

Well, if you think of cos(x) as the variable, it's actually a quadratic equation:

y^2 - 2y = 0, where y = cos(x)

The solutions are y = 0 and y = 2.

So the solutions are when cos(x) = 0 or cos(x) = 2.

Well, cos(x) can never be 2, so don't worry about that one.

So our solutions happen when cos(x) = 0.
The solutions are x = pi/2 and x= 3pi/2

You again.

Try doing multiple initialisations in a C for loop using Small Device C Compiler, any compiler from Microchip, or Amsterdam Compiler. Its not legal.
