Hey guys, can geology in to God tier?

what is this list base on? Last time I checked a finance degree had the most options and is the only undergrad degree you can get that gives you the chance for 6 figs starting. This is the science board though and I doubt most of you have jobs so I doubt this picture is actually about how much these people get paid, I mean you put geology and pharmacology high up. Oh and engineers make very average money.

So this is an opinion list, on how much you liked each degree? That's retarded.

LMAO Economics requires a lot of calculus.

Calc III, Linear Algebra II, Intermediate to advanced statistics and PRE-REQS for an economics degree. Differential equations, real analysis, phil symbolic logic, pure philosophy are good enhancements to an econ degree. It then encompasses all of the other social sciences, sociology, psychology and even anthropology.

To be a good economist, you need to be skilled in soooo many different ways. NOW THERE IS A WIDE SPECTRUM OF TYPES OF ECON DEGREES AND IT CAN BE QUITE MISLEADING. For example, you can get an econ degree at a shit tier school taking shit tier classes, but the real econ degree is easily in god tier.

QFT. Hell, most schools offer multiple degrees in it, with a B.A. for the liberal arts (dumb) types, and a B.S. for the skilled people.

As you mentioned, a good portion of economics focuses on buttdevestating the social sciences. Gary Becker is a good example.

lol no, guess you don't know how much most analysts make at a BB firm. Pre subprime mortgage crisis it was 60k salary with an AVERAGE of 60k in bonuses, now it's an average of 40k with a 30k bonus first year starting. Most middle market firms pay the same starting and as you move up you simply make less millions in these MM firms

If you want to make a chart at least know what kind of potential careers a specific degree allows you to get.

Besides all that, and the fact that a finance degree is in terms of money the best degree to get, it should ALL be based on enjoyment of said career and nothing more. No one has a right to say what field is the best because different people enjoy different things

Actually my tuition is being paid for my my parents who set up a fund when I was born. I want a job where I can be making somewhere around $75,000-$100,000 in about 10 years or so, and then I can just coast until I retire. I want to just have a 9 to 5 and be able to party on the weekends and shit.

>> No.2158171

>>2158131
yeah that would be a good plan, BUT just keep in mind that if you do for the math major it does require you to prove that you are a good programmer a bit more so try and do some freelance programming for businesses and such just because a few (and I mean very few and often the lesser paying areas) will want proof of programming experience if you go the math route.

That being said look into different careers and really decide what you want to do and even what field of programming you want to work in as well as prospective employers to determine if it's better to do math/cs or cs/math.

I know right? I don't want to change the world. I probably am not smart enough to do so if I tried. I'm just trying to be as comfortable as I can be until it's time to go.

Sorry if I'm wrong (I'm just finishing up my first semester so I'm still a little new) but does double majoring take longer than a regular degree?
>>2158168
Thanks man, and that's actually really good advice. I know this sounds so dumb and counterintuitive but I've sort of just been looking at degrees, not really taking time to decide the job I want. Really good advice man, thanks.

probably no where since this board frowns on non engineering/science degrees and accountants make meh money doing a meh job(though they tend to work great hours and if you actually enjoy the work it's a great choice)

though once again ranking degrees is fucking stupid unless it really is a non-wanted degree or one very very niche career options

you're welcome, I did IT work after high school (I programmed, then did network analyst consulting) and hated all of it, so I learned to look at things as "what kind of career do I want and what are the requirements" rather than "I did well at physics and math and like making things so I should get an engineering degree". It's always a great idea to look at EXACTLY what you want to do, that way you can even read up on relevant material that wont be taught at any uni (for example lbo modelling) and especially so you can get internships at the place you want to work which generally tend to guarantee a job

One of my lifelong dreams is to go to art school for illustration and start a career freelancing for children's books.

Now I'm poised to go into either Chemistry or Pharmacy.

Secretly I'm planning to do that illustration degree once I have an established career.

The only people I know with business degrees are working in the same jobs they had before they got their degrees.

Because /sci/ associates business degrees with the frat guys who pull 2.5 gpas at shitty state schools. Which is unfair, because management truly is an important skill set to be mastered. Also, the work /sci/ agrees is important would not likely get done without managers making sure the company was financially sound.

Realistically, math is the only god tier degree. Geology shares top-tier with most of the other natural sciences and most engineering degrees.

My major is Computer Science and im kind of mad. But its ok, i like what i am studying.

Just wanted to ask: isnt Computer Science almost similar to pure math? I mean, i am taking more math courses than language and comp courses. Maybe someone could point my brain the right way? :P

Hard to get in, easy to graduate from.

The way I see things is that business majors are basically communications majors who have taken introductory classes in economics so that the shit the spout out sometimes makes sense.

well, that's because most people who are in politics were lawyers or businessmen. It's a networking game and people who know laws and people who know what will help business/the economy are looked at favorably
