IT ISN'T ALIEMS I AM A FAGGOT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

>> No.2141756

But is it related to us?

>> No.2141761

Spoiler Alert:
It's just the discovery of arsenic-based lifeforms on Earth. It has nothing to do with aliens. If you believe an official Government source would release anything paradigm-changing intentionally, I got a beach in Florida to sell you.

>> No.2141757

Yes, the bacteria evolved from regularly bacteria. The lake was formed only a few hundred thousand years ago.

This bacteria is no more relevant to extraterrestrial life than any other extremophile.

We just broadened our search engine with new relevant terms.

>> No.2141831

It was already a very high probability that there were other carbon based life in the galaxy. Now that we can add Arsenic based lifeforms.....it is an absolute certainty.

>> No.2141847

>>2141711
I learned about this in some biology class a long time ago. I remember my professor telling that arsenic could replace phosphorus in the phosphate group of DNA because both elements are in the same chemical group. Old news is old. Such a cheap shot for funding.

>> No.2141863

>>2141831
>it is an absolute certainty.

Why? We still don't know how probable it is for life to arise in the first place. These bacteria evolved to live in these environments. But for something to evolve we need an original replicator - and the big question is still: How likely is it that such a replicator forms itself?

>> No.2141878

Old news I saw it in the documentary Evolution.

>> No.2142030

>>2141947
Did you even watch the announcement? Sure it is known that Arsenic could potentially replace phosphorus in genomic bonds. However since the bonds would be weaker it is unlikely that it would happen and more likely that an organism in a high arsenic / low phosphorus environment would just fail to survive. The announcement showed that the bacteria had changed the inherent structure of it's DNA helix in order to allow arsenic to replace the phosphorus and create a stable bond.

It is probably the biggest discovery since Darwin so just fuck off back to Counter Strike because you don't understand fuck all about biology or science.

WTF is counterstrike, faggot?

I actually work with biologists and got my degrees in molecular biology, so I bet I know more than you.

Just because something is unlikely doesn't mean it can't happen. You are just repeating what I said. Arsenate could replace the phosphate group in DNA, news is old (+5 years old), and retards like you think it's novel and groundbreaking. Microorganisms are the fastest mutating entities of life, so it's not surprising that it could adapt faster and better than others. GTFO of science, retard, as you certainly compare these shitty news to Darwin's discoveries, you know nothing.

Speculation doesn't advance science. I speculate that we could use the Heisenberg Compensator to observe exact locality of quantum entities in order to record their quantum properties and encode them into entangled photons and send those photons to the other side of the Earth which would facilitate light speed transportation....

No. Despite what people might learn in HS chemistry class, elements of the same column often have wildly different chemistry.

It just happens that arsenates and phosphates are similar.

There are no silicon based organisms.

>> No.2142430

why people are even surprised about this..

anaerobic respiration is by far more "alien-like" than a fucking tag used by enzymes and proteins.

This has been told over and over..the building blocks are not "that" important but how they are put together..

im sure you may find some type of bacterial life forms in every terrestrial planet.. but the ones that are multicellular have to be very similar to what we know off.
