I got 70k starting in architecture, and my pay raises super fast the longer I stay with my firm.

But okay, good for you.

What's really bad, OP, is that I was halfway through my comp sci degree when the IT bubble popped. Guys I knew who graduated two years before me got snapped up by Silicon Valley firms as soon as they graduated, half million dollar signing bonuses and all. Sure, they got laid off a couple years later, but they'd made their millions already. Feels bad.
