What does /sci/ think about the starseed launcher? It's basically a nanotech-assembled particle accelerator, that can fit inside the volume of a car, and can launch thousands of bacteria-sized probes all the way up to one-third of lightspeed through the use of this 1000-km-long launch tether/accelerator thingee. Instead of using multi-gigawatt power sources this would require very little energy, perhaps the amount providable by a few solar panels or a small nuclear reactor attached to the thing, or at various points across the lenght. The probes would not be able to hold cameras but they could carry sufficient equipment to do basic testing, perhaps even find a world and determine some basic characteristics. Each probe carries 400 square meters of mesh wire to use as a magnetic sail to decelerate and maneuver in the target system, and the surface area of this sail would be enough to send data back or use as a radio telescope, instead of a visual one (Which wouldn't fit), especially considering every atom of the damn thing would act as a camera, sensor, and computer.

Holy shit.

Imagine if extraterrestrials were watching us from space or even on Earth with these.

I know, crockpot theory #89128309258091, but imagine.
