Are there any apparent physical laws that wouldn't allow us to build stable structures from the Earth's surface that extend vertically into outer space?

>> No.2083306

You're going to need very tough materials to withstand the extreme forces; such as carbon nano-tubes. Otherwise, no.

>> No.2083308

You're talking about a space elevator?

>> No.2083311

Have to have one hell of a foundation on it. That much is for sure. Ever go up in a skyscraper or other tall structure in high wind? They sway like all hell. Though, I too wouldn't mind seeing a space elevator.

>> No.2083318

Pretty sure wind would fuck with it.

That, and the colder temperatures further from the earth might mess with the materials.

there's just one, but it's not really that important or significant.

it's just a little law, not really responsible for much.

it's called gravity

Also, conditions are brutal that high up. Blood boils from lack of pressure, extremely cold, unprotected from harmful solar/interstellar radiation.

Nonetheless, yes it is possible to build such a structure, just highly infeasible with current technology/resources.

>> No.2083335

whenever you can create diamonoid structures of arbitrary shape and size it will be possible.

It will coincide with a revolution in all forms of manufacturing.

lol.
diamonds are so 20th century tech.

^shits gonna stir up a revolution.

Graphene, I heard that the shit super-conducts magnetic monopoles with a critical temperature of over 900C
