From an evolutionary stand-point, why do you think women have manifested a desire for equal rights? I mean, looking at almost all animals as well as the past ancestors of humans, males have always dominated (in some rare cases, females are the dominant sex). So what do you think happened that caused them to think they need more than to provide for children and make babies with the best male they can find?

We're supposed to be a sentient species, you know, dude, we're supposed to get over misogyny just like we got over climbing trees and superstitious nonsense. Maybe not completely on the latter, but still.

But the thing is in a modern society the earlier things mentioned don't fit in anymore, whereas women being stuck in the home with children would not have any sort of poor effect.

This misogynist behaviour is not going to get you laid, /sci/.

You know what, once I kidnap Craig Venter and force him to make my human-leopard posthuman-level hybrid, I will tell him to make it a female so you will have to bow to her GLORIOUS POST-SINGULARITY GREATNESS.

Women wanting equal rights isn't necessarily (and most likely isn't) due to evolution but convenience. Now that parenting isn't (or doesn't have to be) a full-time job, women want to be accepted into society.

Because humans are so self-sufficient, these independent women aren't dying out.

>implying traditional gender roles were misogyn

You should try to look past all that propaganda. You also don't have to be religious or a rightwinger to see the benefits of a traditional society at least located along traditional gender roles.

most women don't want equal rights; they want to be treated the same. there is a huge difference

I had a history teacher who was a huge feminist, but she told us that in 1970something when a bill was up that would give women equal-rights she voted against it because she feared a draft.

the point is women don't want the same rights, because with it comes the same responsibility. you have a ton of laws protecting you that would go away, and you get to avoid things like the draft.
not saying women don't want equal treatment, but they (usually) don't want equal rights

>> No.2077634

>>2077613
...No. Equal rights -are- equal treatment. The letting women get drafted would not only equate the right but also the treatment. What you're saying is they don't want to be equal, they want to do some things men can do while still being women.

They don't want the responsibilities.

OP, in the sense of evolution, it probably came through their desire to create an evolutionarily stable strategy.

They're smart enough to realize what's best for them, their families, their offspring. A woman with equality has a better chance of gaining the most available resources for her children. If she doesn't want to fall behind, she needs that edge up.

Furthermore, if you go back to hunter-gatherer societies were about equal. Hunts were rare so tribes survived for the most part on the products of gathering. Because of this, the two genders were about equal. Women could be the "alphas" of the tribe in the same sense that males could be. It wasn't until farming was developed that men focused on farming and, because of being physically stronger, were capable of curtailing female abilities within a given society. From then on, women became useless and men became the bread winners.

That doesn't make any sense. Misogyny does not mean having distinct roles for the sexes, which all other species have. And having indistinct roles has nothing to do with being sentient. What are you smoking?

Evolution is undeniably true. Psychology is a product of brain chemistry, the brain is a part of the human body, and evolution directly effects the human body (obviously). The question isn't IF evolution has impacted upon human psychology, it is HOW.

Believe it or not, equal rights is more about technology than anything else. Technology has eliminated most of the work traditional to women in western society, particularly cooking, cleaning, and sewing. Nowadays, technology handles the first two and children in India handle the last one. Women need something to do, and society has to adjust to re-define useful roles.

Logic dictates that you must be wrong. The human brain evolved. Human psychology is a product of brain chemistry. Therefore psychology has evolved. This conclusion is entirely inescapable, and if you disagree you are wrong (and possibly retarded).

Well, OP, define equal. I don't think equal necessarily means identical. Women in the past did have things pretty good. While she didn't have the same power as men, the males were obligated to defend her. She couldn't get paid well for work outside the home, so the man would provide for her. In return he got a willing mate, a mother for his children and a maid. Seems pretty fair to me.

What's really happening is that women want all the perks of being a woman with all the equal rights benefits as well. The man should still take care of her, even though she makes more than he does. The man should protect her, but she doesn't even have to make the bed.
