>mfw /sci/ dont have a negative opinion about social sciences

>> No.2025407

The endeavor is noble, but I don't know how fruitful it truly is.

>> No.2025418

They are necessary, but not very successful. There are various reasons for this, the scientists themselves aren't really to blame. It's just that they're trying to simplify large, chaotic, abstract systems and it's kind of hard.

/sci/ we love social sciences but hate engineeers. Do we just love anything with science in it.

Is economics considered a science?

thought it was more inclining towards math...

is like metheorology, they are giving it the wrong use

I, personally, don't enjoy the social sciences. I think it's extremely interesting to read up on the recent advances and everything but they way my mind works, I have some problems with the vagaries and the lack of empiricity (phisiksfag here).

>> No.2025694

I don't want that to come off as me lacking respect for social scientists though or having the stereotypical attitude of a physicist towards the social sciences (the only-reason-you're-a-psychologist-is-cause-you-failed-math outlook.)

>> No.2025739

Social scientists can be smart people trying to model some dynamics that are difficult to parameterize. I respect them if they're aware that they're making models.

>> No.2025769

Ya

As long as they are trying to theory build and create models. Like mathematical sociology, most of economics, mathematical psychology. Then Im okay with it.

You got to give these guys a break. Like a previous poster said...the world is chaotic. The social sciences need better MATHEMATICAL TOOLS to study it. Physics got Calculus. We need a mathematical revolution similar to that.

>> No.2025782

Social sciences would actually produce real results if ethics and morals didn't cause such a hissy fit, especially with stuff like sensory deprevation experiments.
