Can someone who knows about nukes explain this to me:

I used this site

http://www.carloslabs.com/node/20

to check if i would be boned in a nuke attack. Im not in the radius at any layer, and i checked the fallout pattern and it blows away from me, but i am still somewhat close to the radius.

So I don't understand, as long as youre outside the radius youre okay, or are you just going to get radiation more slowly or what?

If a tsar bomba would be dropped on my city, I'd get grilled. Feels bad, man.

Depends on the criteria. Bear in mind that there's an option to change the bomb type from suitcase bomb and also wind direction. Bet you don't evade a hit from the bigger bombs; the fallout trail is wide enough to span the width of England.

If you're outside all the zones you'll survive the blast for sure. Food might be contaminated and cancer rates will skyrocket, but you'd probably be okay. However, I dare say the political climate would be the thing most likely to kill you at that point.

If you are outside the thermal and pressure zones but still within the country you'll just receive a survivable dose of gamma and x-rays. Fallout is unpredictable because of weather, so don't count on avoiding it just because you're outside the projected fallout zone.

I live in North Wyoming. I wonder if there are any targets around my area that would provide even a remote chance for attack. It looks like, bar an asteroid impact, I should be fine in any case. Sucks to be near a large city.

thank you. when you say survivable doses, does that mean it would make everyone sick, or just maybe give a few people here and there illness?

It would be like getting a few treatments of chemo. Go look up some cancer patient videos of people after chemo.

Depends on how well-shielded you happened to be at the time of detonation. If you were out in the open you may have exceeded your safe yearly or even lifetime dose, or if you were underground you may have gotten a dose that's barely above background. Exceeding your safe dose means you have an elevated cancer risk.
