So my really good friend (since like 3rd grade) started becoming a huge christfag as of the past few months.
And not even like a 'good' christfag, he goes to Harvest....

I'm just like you guys, a big fan of Dawkins, Hitchens, etc. and I feel really uncomfortable talking about his religion and stuff near him.
Like I'm afraid I'll offend him and stuff.
What to do?

>> No.1972541

As long as he doesn't bother you with his religion, what is the problem?

He does though.
Like literally every day he'll talk about how amazing God is and shit like that.
Shit gets annoying real fast.

here's what I do in situations like these: try not to laugh at their face, (this usually happens with me), and explain to them this quote:
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God"

just ask him why he believes...its a simple question but it will stump the fuck out of him. it can't be to do with evidence, because there is none. it will just be because he says 'it seems/feels right'
and he will basically just have to admit that it is wishful thinking, and he would just prefer for there to be a god, than not to be one.
and then you can point out that just because he wants it to be true, doesn't mean it is.

Dude, that is like what goes on in m head exactly.
But this guy is like my best friend, I'd feel bad if that if I said something like that he'd be offended and shit.

When he does, ask him to prove it.

well honesty is always the best policy, and i can see why you don't want to offend him...so you can tactfully start up a light discussion about it if you wish, maybe starting with "I think the subject of religion is important, and i don't believe in god, and i don't want to offend you, but..."
or, live and let live works out as well. next time he starts spouting about god, just calmly but firmly tell him that you don't believe in god, arn't interested in hearing about god, and you will just drop the subject untill evidence comes in.

Logic prevents you to be friends.
If fate decides for some reason you'd still remain friends with him after the conversation, there might actually be a god.
Everything or nothing.

Stop giving a fuck. As long as he doesn't push his religious beliefs on you he's the same good friend.

Question 1. Do different people look different?
Question 2. Do children resemble their parents?
Question 3. Would a child with two non working legs and serious immune problems or a fully healthy child be more likely to eventually have children assuming they had to compete for limited resources throughout life?

Your friend now understands evolution, step one on the path to reason.

ask him if he can see god with his eyes closed; after he confirms he can ask him how he learned what god was; then ask him why if god was omnipresent and all powerful could you only learn about him from other people.
