the seal would cause a lot of friction, slowing down the balls to a stop. it would have to be qite tightly pressured to stop water escaping, and so would cause so much friction...so thus wouldn't work.

To stick the ball in at the bottom it must displace (push up) a coloumn of water above it; and this requires as much energy as is released when the ball floats to the top which can be seen as allowing this coloumn fall back down.

the pressure differential is only a finite force from the pressure (pgh) times the cross sectional area of the sphere. That's easily overcome from the multiple bouyancy forces from the air filled spheres

let's put numbers for a reality check people.

Pressure under 1 foot of water = 0.43 psi
Force on sphere at seal of 1 sq inch cross-section = 0.43 lbs
Bouyancy force of a single sphere upwards = 0.15 lbs

You ONLY need 3 spheres to overcome the seal. easily done!
