/sci/ducks,
If KE=1/2mv^2
then why doesnt E=1/2MC^2

Why do we make the assumption that all light travels at exactly the same speed?

>>1931171
Because it does.
Wave = constant speed

>> No.1931181

Because it doesn't.

wave=constant speed, but what happens if the wave lenght is decreased further, like going from blue to red light? We assume the frequency is the only thing affected but how do we not know its just the velocity being affected?

KE=1/2mv^2 seems a reasonable way to explain the different temperature of faster moving light.

This is not an assumption.
It has been tested numerous times, all light in vaccum travels at the same speed.

"temperature" is a statistical property of a volume, it is not a property of a single particle. Light does not have a "temperature".

>> No.1931238

>>1931215
Just because you say it has been tested doesn't mean it actually has. Einstein just said E=MC^2
Which in words means that the energy of a photon is relative to its mass multiplied by "the speed of light" squared. This does nothing for me in terms of proving the speed of light. Someone needs to explain how it has been tested and proved.

>> No.1931248

energy of light =/= kinetic energy
the only reason the two equations look similar is because energy always has the same units, and one way to write it is mass*v^2

I was referring to to Johanne Ritter's experiment with a prism where he found that the temperature of the area of his desk that was struck by different colours of light actually varied. He proved the presence of ultraviolet light through this difference of temperatures.

Perhaps the variant velocity of light was what causes the difference in temps. Not solely the frequency. But how could we even make a frequency calculation when we don't know the velocity is certainly constant?

They measure the speed of light in various rerference frames. It is always constant!

This has bee done many many many times.
IT IS AN ACTUAL EXPERIMENT! LOOK IT UP!
