Maybe you educated college folk can help me out with this.

Why do 'sharp' wounds hurt more, like getting cuts from paper, really sharp knifes, or just thin sheet metal?
I thought it would/should hurt less compared to more rough wounds like getting cut with a serrated knife or rubbing sand paper against ones skin.

The same reason why laying on a bed of nails doesn't tear through your skin, but standing on one nail does.
