Scientists and engineers of /sci/: How does it feel that you will never be more socially relevant, societally important, and never will make as much money as a preteen pop-star?

Perfectly good. People are fucking retarded. If I was "worshiped" by the masses, then I fucked up or sold out somewhere.

Yes, but we scientists should be cherished and valued more for our intelligence and contributions to humanity, for improving the lives of others and innovating society as whole, not some kid with a "good" singing voice. At least science itself should be valued more for these reasons.

As it is now, feels bad man ._.

You place far too much value into the feelings and perceptions of others. I'm not saying you should become cold and indifferent, but take popularity with a grain of salt.

Pet rocks were all the rage in the 70s, but they never left an impact on society. You have that potential, so who cares if you lack the name?

I'm not an attention whore and I don't really care if what I do gets attention or not. It would be good if it did because then it could inspire people to do similar things but my work can do that without me becoming important. I don't really care about the money either, I have a huge amount of disposable income so any more would just be saved or gluttonously spent. It is annoying that it won't have much of a social impact but there are ways to impact society which I didn't do. I could of if I wanted but I didn't choose that path and that's ok with me.

Yeah but the dumbass who came up with them made more money than any of us who matter will ever make, and that's pretty fucking shitty and rageworthy. Someone with a simple idea is more important and makes more money than those with complex and intellectual ideas. Our society puts too little importance on intelligence and knowledge, especially for us that're stuck in the US.

NOBODY on /sci/ will ever contribute shit.

All you are worthless contributions. You're just piss adding to an ocean of piss poor scientists. You'll never be the next Newton or something, give it up you stupid faggots. You're pieces of shit that will NEVER amount to ANYTHING.

pre-teen popstars make a greater and more positive difference in the world than any "scientist" on /sci/ ever will. A lot of them actually donate millions towards charity and even scientific endeavors. Granted they'll never do more than the best scientists even if they do make 1000x more than the best scientists but they still do THOUSANDS of times more than mediocre generic scientists everywhere who feel like self entitled pricks never doing anything that changes the world and flaunting around intelligence that is always on par with the general population.

except people dont become scientists and engineers to be socially relevant, societally important or to make alot of money.

also if youre a sucessful engineer (say you designed the ipod) then preteen popstar got no shit on your networth.

>> No.1918514

Most celebrities and preteen pop-stars fade out over time and then you don't hear about them at all.
