The problem with hard-sf is we're essentially forced to predict what will happen in the future with technology and information we currently have.

It's like the Egyptians trying to predict what will happen all they way up to 2000 A.D. There's also going to be lots of disagreements about what will exist.

The "canon" rules need to be replaced with complete laws of the universe so that writers can have advancements and findings in their stories. This'll allow people to say "this" happened because "this law" allows it, and therefore "this advancement" can be made and so on. But at that point, it's just plan sci-fi.

Well, even though there will be disagreements, I think we can reach a common consensus on the general timeline and what theoretical things (Wormholes, tachyons) will exist in the setting, no?
