engineers are intelligent enough to become engineers.

But engineers are not intelligent enough to become scientists.

What about dual majors?

Also, certain electrical/chemical engineering jobs are really more science than engineering.

Engineers were once considered to be above scientists.

That changed and we shifted towards more science-based engineering when America dropped the bomb.

>Engineers were once considered to be above scientists.

I just want to clarify this. They were considered to be above scientists by the common man.

Think back 250 years to Jonathan's Swift's "Gulliver's Travels". In his third voyage, GUlliver travels to the flying island of Laputa, which is inhabited by scientists. And these scientists are figures of fun - they are depcited as engaged in projects to extract sunlight from cucumbers, trainj spiders to spin cloth, and so on. When, over the following two centures, the industrial revolution took place, its heroes were engineers, not scientists, and the names we remember from that period are the names of engineers - Watt, Stevenson, Treviathan, Whitworth, etc.

If we look at the fiction up to the early years of the 20th century:

In H.G. Well's "Food of the Gods", a couple of misguided scientists develop a miracle food - Herakleophorbia - and proceed to scatter it around the countryside with wild abandon. Diasterous consequences ensue until Cotter, a sensible and courageous engineering, steps in to save the country. In "20,000 Leagues below the Sea", Jules Verne's Captain Nemo takes pride in pointing out that the Nautilus draws on no new science, only the engineering application of what is already known.

Then in 1945 it became clear that science could do something useful. It could win wars.

Werner von Braun, when brought over from Nazi Germany to assist in the United State's space program, told his subordinates, "Don't call yourselves engineers; say you're scientists and they'll give you anything you want."

tldr engineers rule the world
