Sorry if this has been posted already, but is someone here able to explain this? What the fuck is next to that moon (either Titan or Dione, I don't fucking know)? The image I am posting can be found here http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap100420.html
and the only difference is that I adjusted the contrast and brightness. I used http://fotoflexer.com/ to alter the contrast/brightness.

A badly-edited fuck up of a photo.

Offhand, it looks like somebody might have crudely shooped a black background against the moon's dark half in order to make that half stand out for the human eye better. Thats a half-assed gues on my part. But it does look like somebody masked the moon off and then just scribbled with a black paintbrush tool.

It's where NASA erased the alien craft.

The person who did this editing already explained why it was done.

Recalling from memory, so it might be a bit inaccurate:

The way the photo was taken allowed a clear image of either Titan or Dione, but not both at the same time. [IIRC due to exposure time]

So the editor cut Dione out of the image where it was clear, and pasted it into the image where Titan was clear, and then blacked out the blurry/messy Dione in that image.
