This thread is about those who actually PROGRESSED a scientific field or fields, not pop-scientists LOL.

I am glad you agree on Dr. B!

Darwin did a lot to advance the field at the time, but by modern standards he was a pretty shitty scientist.

Dr. B progressed gentic engineering greatly.
It sounds like you dont know much about scientists.

Euclid and Euler, your list is sorely incomplete.

I nominate Rutherford, sure some of his stuff was wrong, but he inferred the existence of protons and neutrons, and was the among the first to put electrons outside of the nucleus (shat in Thomson's face)

Nope, he was awesome. On the Origin of Species was fucking amazing, and it's amazing that so much of it still holds up today.

Well here's the open question, then: What makes a great scientist? Just because somebody happened to have the right idea at the right time, or happened to be the first to combine all the pieces? I think a great scientist is someone who spends life experimenting and asking questions without getting tied obsessed with being right. Folks like Feynman, Tesla, Faraday.

Scientists. Seekers.

Darwin was just the right guy at the right moment.

>> No.1854583

>>1854342
Maxwell, Gauss and Newton all deserve a place.
Tesla was more of an engineer, but he would be in the greatest engineer tier. Feynman should be one tier lower, and for bastardizing physics, Einstein should be on the troll tier

>> No.1854608

Tesla was a man who exaggerated many conclusions and basically an inventor
>>1854583
obviously you have never had modern physics if you think einstein is a troll...whatever you mean by that

apparently it doesn't matter what you do, just how famous you get that's all. look at Pythagoras theorem, 6 civilisations discovered it 100's of years before him, but he got the name tied to it woota?
