Sup /sci/.

I have a quick question about corn syrup.

Without looking at the nutritional consequences of HFCS, what are the consequences on the human body of the acid hydrolysis? Are the low levels of hydrochloric/sulfuric acid (~200 parts per million) and enzymatic reactors dangerous over a long period of consumption?

shlarble harble a shlurp derp derp herp.

dar corrn syrup is dah danger

Right, that's what I'm trying to find out. Does the acid content of the corn syrup have a negative effect on humans?

Would it matter if I changed the situation? Let's say that I'm putting 200 parts per million in water, and I drink 8 cups of that water per day. Is it enough to hurt me in the long run?

Yes, everything you consume effects your body's pH.
This is why I'm looking where to buy pH paper.
Do you know where I can buy some?

Two seconds on Google will tell you where to get pH.

>>1814289
Dunno. Probably depends on a number of factors as a lot of things affect blood pH. Shit starts to get bad at pH < 7.35

You've obviously never heard of a buffer solution. Seriously, you'd have to consume highly concentrated acid/base in order to significantly change your body's pH.

You're worried about getting acid in your acid filled stomach?

>> No.1814492

I think the buffers in our bodies stop the minuscule effects of corn syrups acidity from taking significant effect on our metabolism or physiology.

It's more that our metabolic processes weren't evolved to deal with the amounts of sugars that we routinely expose ourselves to.

it's basically that our kidneys have to work harder, longer and must release fat into our systems to process it

Lmao, anon.
Fructose does nothing for insulin levels. It gets directed towards the liver cells rather than the muscle cells.

This. /thread

Its nice to see some chemistry / biochem for a change, but most of the shit I have been seeing recently is completely fucking stupid. Never change /sci/
