OP, if this ever happens again in the future, you can avoid having to use time travel by taking advantage of this internet search thing called Google. You just type something like "How to calculate kinetic energy of a moving object." And then thousands of pages with instructions on how to calculate both theoretical and average kinetic energy will be right in front of you. Google's a pretty new technology but as a time traveler you could probably find a way to adjust quickly.
