My thread 404'd yesterday, but it was basically about how a random crazy-ass Youtube commenter mentioned something about tornadoes being columns of anti-gravity.

Well I found a new source that goes into more detail about this theory. I don't have a strong physics background, but is anything in this source accurate?

The severe thunderstorms which produce tornadoes form where cold dry polar air meets warm moist tropical air. These air currents meeting causes a funnel formation, with a low pressure core. That is a tornado.

Nice try, but what you just described is a mesocyclone. We've known how they form for a long time. Warm air rising meets cold air, horizontal rotation turns vertical via wind shear and updrafts, etc. That's a mesocyclone.

What we DON'T know is how a funnel comes down and transfers the high winds from the mesocyclone down to the ground in a small, concentrated area.
