I grew up thinking Nuclear power was some crazy ass sci fi movie shit.

But now i realize the whole atom splitting thing is just so they can make some steam to turn a glorified wheel.

Feels bad man.

I know, if it just weren't for the whole "kills everything organic" radiation thing

lol. In fact, coal burning power plants are emitting far more radiation than nuclear power plants.

You're now aware that this is the only way humans know how to generate power on a large scale: get something hot, use it to make steam and turn a wheel. All we do is get the something hot in different ways.

Feels bad man.

whilst requiring ridiculously stringent round the clock maintenance forever or face the imminent apocalyptic doom of a nuclear melt down scenario.

how long before we come up with something else?

I think it could be the next big step, comparable to when we invented the engine.

I saw some documentary on Chernobyl, was eerie as fuck. Huge city just fucking abandoned.

Still love dat nuclear power though

There has to be another way to generate power than by spinning a wheel. I'm sure that the only reason we haven't looked into it is because it's what we've worked with for years.

OK! Ideas on how to generate electricity without a wheel.

Would it be possible to take an atom, and then somehow knock the electrons out of orbit and into a battery? Maybe with a more powerfully attractive atom?

Conservation of energy bro. You MUST use a separate incarnate of energy to generate usable electrical energy. This leaves us with mechanical to electrical, though I wonder about strong/weak interactions to electrical energy? Does anyone know any possible mechanisms?

The town is called Pripyat. They had to abandon the town quickly after the disaster because of the gnarly radiation death/poisoning/ass raping that started happening.

Interesting fact though, the other two reactors at Chernobyl continued to operate until 2000 to satisfy power demands.

Well, there is solar power. Doesn't generate much energy when compared to nuclear, but is good for a decentralized infrastructure. I'd prefer it for private households.

Solar cells convert solar energy (light and heat) to electrical via voltaic cells, right? No wheels involved.

Is it possible to generate electricity with heat energy alone? Because then geothermal would be a real nice source. Drop a few pylons around Yellowstone.

unless we find a good alternative to oil, once it runs out we'll have to use all the methods for creating energy together at the same time.

Yeah, use it to boil water to create steam which then turns a wheel.

Oh wait...

go to library
look for books on every type of power generation system
compare to number of books on steam engines
look at who is using steam engines (electric companies and nuclear plants)
wheres the books?
is this an example of a supressed information?

Phft. RTGs are even more boring.

You aren't even splitting or fusing shit, just waiting for it to decay. Then you don't even have spinan' magnets, just some thermoelectric material.

They also make squat for power.
