>Get mocked by my peers my entire academic life by going into teaching while they go into engineering and the sciences
>After 5 years of being a high school math teacher, making 85k a year, summers off, generally awesome job
>Friends with science degrees either got nothing after Uni or stuck in a dead end code monkey job making 40k a year working their asses off
>Engineering friends stuck in entry level positions making no more than 60k a year after 5 years, also working their asses off.
Feels good man.

just stopping by,

OP is on 4chan, therefore he is fail.

On top of that, he is bragging obviously in need of attention...douche.

My conclusion: Faildouche

$85k? Where the heck are you teaching? Top salary where I am is under $70k, and that takes 10 years to get to.

Not OP but as far as I know, A teacher with an MA and praxis certified gets paid $80k+ a year. A higher pay grade for teachers with PhD on both primary and secondary education here in Maryland.

>> No.1795823

Not that 85k is bad, (depending on where you live that could be the equiv of 50 or even 40k) but, assuming you live in wyoming, you've done well. Good job, bro.

As an aside, my sister, who had myself tutor her for bio and Organic, is an RN. She makes 92. (94? I forget). She got 1066 on her SAT back in 2001. I'm still in school, so I can't talk too much shit. But she just graduated in Dec, what 9 months ago? and still got a job. Myself and my other bro, who's an ophthalmologist ( don't get me started on his pay, fucker got 1st in his class in med school, 1/2 mortgage paid , etc) pretty much got her where she is now.

So suck on that, bro. Because you will meet them.

I was a high school math teacher too, and while it was a pretty good job, I keep pining for actual mathematics.

Doesn't this happen to you, OP? Money isn't everything....

There is too much to learn in life in the little time we have. Academia keep striving to learn, but eventually you get to a point in your life where you just want to relax, and enjoy it in ways that you can't when you're constantly trying to pursue intellect. You get to a point where you realize everything you learn just leads into learning something else to learn and you just die anyway in the end. I realized a big reason for wanting to learn things was just to say to myself "I know THIS much now!" Bragging rights was about all that ends up coming out of it in the end, and it just isn't worth it. Learning things I would never use and so on and so forth. I just want to enjoy life now.

I'm not the op but I'm just saying my experience in life.

Seriously, I feel like I'm the only fucking person in the world who doesn't want a big fucking mansion, boats, and multiple sports cars. I just want a decent house, loving wife, good internet connection and some video games and 85k a year is more than enough to compensate for that.

You are a wise man OP.

There will always be a need for educators and it a safe middle class profession. I hope to follow in your footsteps.

TBH, with Engineering you would be better off going for masters or doctorate level rather than settling with bachelors. IMO they got what they deserved by only striving for Bachelors degrees.

However, to be fair, they studied in what they liked. Their job is fulfilling to them and you should be mature enough to realize it isn't about money but the satisfaction of doing something you are passionate about for a living.
No one degree or profession is truly better than the other as all Legit Degrees (I'm not counting chiropractors degrees or even Acupuncture as they are pseudo science to me) have a common goal:
Bettering the future generations with innovations and research done today.

If nothing else, I ask you keep that in mind before boasting you or your career of choice is "Better" than others based simply upon your salary.

Where do you work? Fucking imagination land?

>> No.1796981

i couldn't handle teaching high school kids. shit would drive me batshit insane and i'd end up on the evening news.

i do like teaching, though. my ideal job would be lecturing at some small liberal arts college in something math/physics/engineering related. probably won't happen, but we'll see.
