hey guys, I heard you were good at math. The healthcare bill that was passed in March is predicted by the fed budget office to reduce federal deficit by $138 billion, but it's said to cost 940 billion. What's going on here : ( I'm writing a report on this and would like to know what to make of this cost discrepancy

Oh yeah, here's the article with the stated figures

It costs 940 billion and it will end up saving 138 billion.

I'm not seeing a discrepancy. Perhaps you should clarify.

Does this mean that the bill will generate a revenue of $1,078 billion?

or is there just a net loss here of $802 billion?

Pick a different subject. Preferably one that doesn't have big words and numbers. Football perhaps?

>Health care generating a net gain in the economy

>> No.1782124

It costs 940 billion but is financed in such a way so as to be deficit neutral with a 138 billion dollar additional deficit reduction.

>> No.1782132

It costs that much, sure, but that's opposed to what health care already costs us and will cost us in the future, which is much more.

Okay so they are paying the costs with taxes or cost cutting, but then through additional taxing/cutting they are also producing a net gain to go towards decreasing the deficit. Am I understanding it correctly? : D

If they got rid of tax exemptions for churches it would soften the blow.

Like that will happen.

I'm happy for America that you guys will finally get to enjoy rich man's healthcare out of the government's pockets. You've missed out for too long, missed out on what every other western nation has.

inb4 tobacco tax increases.

i fucking hate how when the government wants more money but they know they won't be able to get an income tax increase approved by the general public, they go and pick on the vices because the majority doesn't like them. don't really understand how most people are ok with this, but if they pick on any other minority groups there would be a shitstorm.

and just to be clear i don't even smoke or drink.

We don't really have free health care you know.

You realize it's the people who fill the government's pockets, right? So free just means free for the niggers who don't work.
