Both are crucial, you can't practically have one without the other.

Pic very related.

>> No.1724509

Engineering is the conjuction of science and art, the beauty of science becomes real thanks to engineers (see aerodynamics, plane design, etc), while engineering is not a science itself, some engineering groups share the same knowledge of a physicist or mathematician (aerospace eng, mech eng, etc). 'Engineers just apply formulas without knowing what they mean' is a myth.

I believe both are exceptionally valuable to society, but engineers have the upper hand because they actually apply the shit. Without scientists there would be no engineers though.

>> No.1724600

Engineering is in my opinion a form of science. Grouping all of science would require the inclusion of applied sciences, also science can be done with minimal technology in many fields and only require more tech for more specific research, made using knowledge from other fields of science.

I don't think it's really an us vs them thing. I'm an Engineer myself but I like to think of myself as a pseudoscientist, as I deal with a relatively "pure" area (fluid mechanics). By the same extension, some scientists work close to the realms of engineering, for example chemists who make the jump over to chemical engineering.

I welcome both. Much better than artfags.

This 'VS' means nothing bad.

Fellow engineers and friendly scientists, let's all work together for a better world. For we are all allies in all of this, and let's face it; we are awesome.

Also, I like music.

Scientists study basic science. Engineers apply that knowledge to build stuff. Both are needed.

Try building a radio without knowing anything about electromagnetism.

>> No.1725158

I haven't read any post in this thread, but both are very much needed. Scientists will do research to actually introduce the knowledge about everything, but that information won't get anywhere on its own. Engineers are needed to take that information and actually apply it to the real world to make products.

For example, chemists might create a new product, but chemical engineers are needed to actually get it done and mass produce it.

Lets be realistic here, science and engineering are intrinsically linked. They not only thrive off each other but require each other. I hereby proclaim the Alliance of Awesomeness for people who have their heads screwed on the right way.
