When I was around 10, I thought that Mr. Hawkings had been in that state all his life. I use to entertain myself with the thought that he had a brother who was the real genius. His brother, who wanted nothing to do with the life of being incredibly famous, wheeled Stephen around using a remote device. Stephen, being mentally and physically handicapped, simply enjoyed all the attention he received.

His is made to be distinct and recognizable. Although certainly voice synthesizers have improved they want his to sound like what people recognize as his 'voice'.
