Well, I can't think of anyone who would oppose this on /sci/, so the thread is going to die pretty quick.

I'll play Devil's Advocate.

How are the people who make big decisions chosen? What committee or individual decides who gets the modern equivalent to political capital? Are we trying to eliminate Political Capital, if so, how? Are we assuming that technical skill is equivalent to governing skill or rational decision-making given societal constraints? Are we eliminating specialization by asking Professors, Engineers, Researchers, etc. to govern instead of doing what they do best? What is the mission statement of the government and prime goals? What are the basic rules of the new world order? How are these rules enforced? Will the technically literate be asked to enforce and legislate? How easily will new laws be passed? Is public opinion to be accepted or ignored in this new government? Given my Wiki-deep knowledge of Technocratic governmental style, it's very likely I'm misunderstanding the term, if this is the case, please correct me swiftly that I might more intelligently defend the status quo and foster a more meaningful discussion.
