look at the moon right now.

what is that bright star near the moon?

thats mars right?

>> No.1659301

Can't see moon. Ceiling.

>> No.1659303

helps if you give an idea of which hemisphere (N/S, E/W) you're on.

>> No.1659321

>>1659303
northern hemisphere.. east coast united states.

sorry, i wanted to make this thread quick before the moon disappeared, lol.

this is not the same object that is Venus, i watched that set in the west as always. and it was extremely bright. this is slightly brighter than venus.. but then my mind just goes "what the titty fucking shit?!!?" since venus is supposed to be the brightest star in the sky.

Jupiter

>> No.1659328

Fucking clouds, I can't see the moon.

>> No.1659330

Probably Venus. But I'm from Australia.

3rd brightest object in the sky is Venus, so it's probably that, if it has a red glow it's Mars, and if you can see faint rings, it would be Jupiter.

>> No.1659336

OH SHI- i lost the game.

Cant see shit captain, its raining too hard

It's Jupiter you idiots. Fucking know it all retards, if you don't know STFU you make sci look like tools.

>> No.1659395

It's Venus, it's always Venus.
Doesn't matter if you can already see it in the sky, it's Venus.
Don't question this either.

>> No.1659417

The google sky maps app for the droid is great for figuring this stuff out. I love taking it outside to identify constellations and planets and shit.

Woah, I can see it really well from here.British Columbia here.

>> No.1659556

OP here, back from seeing this thing with my shitty telescope.

i see a HUGE round object that is neighbored by 3 much much smaller objects, and a a 4th vastly distant object.

when i first saw this thing, i thought there was something wrong with my telescope, i literally thought that my lens was fucked. it was just a bright circle. ..

ive seen jupiter before, with this same telescope, and i could barely make out any features on it.... but this THIS is HUGE much bigger than jupiter, since the last time i saw it with the same telescope. its kinda creepy, because at the size of the object in my scope, youd think id be able to make out the signature features.. but i cant. i mean it was HUGE, it was about 3/16 the size of the moon (viewing through the scope, and yes that is a very rough estimate)

anyone else care to look at it through a telescope? shits kinda strange.

>> No.1659568

Its Jupiter.. AND, if you can look just ever so slightly above it, Uranus!

>> No.1659677

First off, why the hell is everyone referring to Venus as a star?

It is a planet.

Second, Venus has an orbit closer to the sun than us, therefor it will never be out in the middle of the night, that makes no fucking sense.

Third, you cannot see the rings of Jupiter without some intense optics, even then you probably wouldn't notice them.

Fourth, if you are seeing objects around this mysterious body in the sky, then it is in fact Jupiter. You are seeing a nice sight of the four Galilean moons, the fourth one may even been a star behind Jupiter.

Fifth, Uranus is not able to be seen with the naked eye, dont even try.

sure is summer in here

>> No.1659702

What planet is it?

>> No.1659707

ITS JUPITER!

LEARN TO PLANET!

Good Job getting the kit out. Telescope users tip.
Focus on a star first.
Start with low power (long focal length eyepiece).
It sounds like either you have the telescope slightly out of focus, or you have too much power for the seeing.

>> No.1659899

Its Jupiter. Venus is MUCH brighter and u can see it in the east after sunset. Mars is to the lower right of it (facing east).
