Feynman once said that he didn't care if his kids became scientists, and that he just wanted his kids to grow up to do what they loved. Then his daughter decided to get into philosophy, to which he responded, "showing that no matter what you think, your kids will always find ways to disappoint you." (Loosely paraphrased... I don't have the book handy.)
