Ok... what about the idea of the clockmaker god, whose last actions in this universe were a couple nanoseconds before the big bang? Totally irrelevant to the workings of everything, no miracles, and none of that b.s. from any of those stupid books, simple deism.

As I understand it, we've been able to trace the origins of the universe back to a moment wherein all matter and energy exploded out of a single point. I'm not saying stop trying to figure out what happened before that, that it was Gawd and we can quit investigating right now. Just curious as to how the community reacts to such an idea, that perhaps there might be a god out there, somewhere. Probably not anthropomorphic in any way, not breaking the rules of the Great Game he set us up with, but y'know... there.

Well I reject to believe, period.
"Faith is the surrender of the mind, it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other animals. It's our need to believe and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. ... Out of all the virtues, all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated" ~Christopher Hitchens

Just because it shares that quality in common with religion doesn't mean that they're the same thing. For example ducks have a circulatory system and so do humans. Humans are mammals, by your logic ducks would be mammals too.

There IS a certain degree of hubris in the scientific community rejecting everything remotely spiritual essentially out of hand. It's within the realm of possibility that there are some phenomena so rare, and requiring such specialized circumstances, that they would be practically invisible to the scientific method. For example, the presence of someone who doesn't believe in ghosts makes one less likely to manifest as psychic emanations from the skeptic suppress it. Skepticism is good for science, necessary, but I'm not entirely sure enough credible researchers have really put in the time or effort necessary to forcefully declare, "This exists and that does not" with a lot of stuff.

That being said, I trust the guys in labcoats way more than goatherds some 2-3k years ago.

>> No.1636820

I don't have a faith in not believing things you nucklehead. I simply have no faith. I don't believe or disbelieve in god not only b/c this god you people speak of has given me no proof of its existence, so there should be no reason to believe in it, but most importantly the intrinsic nature of belief itself is stupid and these aren't beliefs but rather inferences on what is most likely a fact. Therefore, I am confident through objective analysis of life thus far that there is no god.

No I don't even believe in science. I'm just completely confident that the method is the key to human understanding the universe and possibly multiverse around us. Comparatively look at all the discoveries this method has has brought about and then take any other method say: blind faith. But that's redundant, faith is blind.

If you don't believe that there was somekind of unseen force (that some may call "God" or atleast the theory of "Big Bang" or both...) that created the universe and all that we see, you're what is wrong with humanity.

>> No.1636882

>>1636857
So you trust science and it's methods to some degree?

>> No.1636898

>>1636882
No, not in the slightest. Rather it's a matter of inference, the process of drawing a conclusion by applying heuristics (based on logic, statistics etc.) to observations or hypotheses; or by interpolating the next logical step in an intuited pattern. And I inferred that science is so far the best method we have to understand the natural phenomena that's around us.
