I really want to stop being a mathlet but finding zero practical use cases for it I'm unable to pursue any advanced studies seriously.
I'm a low level C++ system programmer and - outside of 2D geometry - the most complex thing I remember using is fast fourier transform to pitch shift an audio signal without changing its frequency.
Machine learning is interesting but unless you're building bespoke software, relying on APIs like TensorFlow or PyTorch is mostly about setting the right input/outputs, spamming layer upon layer and that's it.
I'm starting to feel like hardcore math really is pointless.

Pretty much yeah. Unless you're building software tools which gets used by other people (for example a package with a quadratic equation solver), then you dont need to implement math directly, generally speaking. The exception is with algorithms.

Remember, math is literally just machinery with numbers. You dont build a brand new factory every time you want a car.
