That glow is normal for re-entry. Moving fast as fuck means compressing the air in front means it heats up hot as fuck.

The heat shield tiles just have to be oriented correctly and enough of them have to be still attached to keep the rest of the ship from burning up. Somewhere in there is where things failed.

A capsule has a small mas compared to the shield surface and it brakes way sooner.
Starship being massive goes all the way down without braking much, untill it hits a wall of air. The shuttle was also big but had a greater shielded area, so it aerobraked sooner and better.

Like anon said, I don't see this big cilinder with flaps entering a crew, and it is yet to be shown that it can reentry in one piece.

I suspect that they are. The difficulty in estimating from there is figuring out what's needed to actually fix the reaction control system on Starship. It's clear that there's nowhere near enough control authority in the existing vehicles, but what do they need to do to have enough? On one end of the spectrum, improved software might be adequate. In the middle, a greater number of directional gas release valves might be needed to increase the amount of control force available in any one axis both forward and aft. Another option, with increasing work requirements, is a dedicated cold gas thruster system akin to the one on Falcon 9. On the extreme end, the ullage gas based system is discarded entirely and Starship moves to a hypergolic or hot-gas methalox thruster system.
