Also, I don't really see the point of quantum entanglement as a communication system. Why would you want to encrypt information from your space probe?

Light-based communication is rather slow at vast distances. QE is instantaneous, as far as we know.

Except Quantum entanglement is bullshit. From the same people that brought you "exotic matter" and other "Star Trek will be real someday" style bullshit.

some think it is capable of instantaneous transmission of information.

Quantum entanglement is proven.
If "proven" isn't enough, then absolutely everything is bullshit. Light, atoms, gravity - they aren't any more real than QE.
Quantum entanglement being useful in communication, however, is bullshit.

Well... it's not.

Let me explain it in [metaphor? I don't know what this is called]:

Alice has an orange, which she cuts into thirds. She keeps 2/3rds of the orange, and sends 1/3rd in a box to Bob.

Bob receives the package via priority mail a day later. Knowing Alice was going to send him part of an orange he eagerly he opens it. Inside the box is 1/3rd of an orange. Instantaneously, Bob knows that Alice must have 2/3rds of an orange.

That's basically what quantum entanglement is like. You're not sending information faster than light.
