If we consider every human being to be an "instant" of a statistically similar algorithm and every humans' accumulated lifetime memories at death the only distinct and unique elements, then continuity of the base algorithm is guaranteed by the persistence of humanity itself. Because nonexistence is an untenable experience, any two memory sets similar enough at the point of death and the beginning of awareness (in the womb) will create an algorithmic continuity.

Buddhists call this "reoccurence", but it's better known as "reincarnation". It is not a religious "belief" or "hunch", it is a rigorously reasoned out application of information theory, albeit from before the birth of Christ.
