Talking With Coma Patients

This was brought up last night, and then I left, I was wondering where the thread went. What was everyone's opinion on;

Basically, scientists asked comatose state patients to imagine certain activities that would activate different portions of the brain - and it worked.
They even managed to teach one of the patients to associate "yes" and "no" with each imaginary scenario, effectively allowing him to answer autobiographical questions... Correctly.

That was a depressing read on another level. To think that these people are still awake in their bodies makes me cringe.

I thought that when I read it too.

If these people are, in a sense, concsious and aware, being kept alive by our best medical procedures, it is the ultimate prison, and reads like a horror novel. It reminds me of this;
