Can somebody break down wtf the "Unified Field Theory" is?

I mean super break it down? Sounds interesting.

Here's a simple intro to it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9feXeL-3XA

aww yee, I'll break down

its quite difficult to break down that which is already vague.

unified fields, how the fuck they work?

basic idea is that every physical force can be described by one set of principals.

electricity and magnetism used to be thought of as separate, now days we know they are the related electricty&magnetism (thus inventions like electro-magnets)

thermal energy is now understood as the motion of every little particle.

even kicking a ball is now understood as the magnetic forces between every atom in your foot and every atom in the ball.

so /sci/entist hope to one day describe all forces as being one interrelated phenomena. now if you want specific details on competing unified theories than things are going to get a tad more complicated.

Basically, our current laws of physics are separated into "domains" (see pic).

Unified field theory attempts to explain all the forces and interactions under one single model.

to define this, are we first sure that we know all the forces and forms of energy present in the universe?

by far all we can see, feel and detect is linked to electromagnetism. 'course there's other interactions. we usually call these bosons. there could be a couple of new ones like more.
you can't detect gravity like you detect an EM field or a photon, but you still can feel it.

Are you specifically looking for a breakdown of the E8 UFT?
