The second one blew up because they didn't have a payload which would have consumed extra fuel. Because they didn't have payload, there were extra fuels, which they dumped. But that caught a small fire and the automatic termination system blew up the rocket as a result.

So in essence, the primary system wasn't broken. The backup system was. But they'll fix the backup system and the primary system will also be more robust in ~1 month now. The rocket should be ready this month, flying next month.

Man if this painting isn't evidence enough that we are getting nostalgia baited hard, I think it's important to have hopes and dreams but it's important to realize Elon is despite everything kind of a grifter and will never admit he's wrong (boring company). That's exactly the point I'm making, he will just say whatever and the engineers will do their best to create what they can create and then we will just get the next wave of rationalizations. He says that in 2017 you'd be able to drive cross country with no hands in a Tesla taxi and now 7 years later you're going "oh but there's highway lane assist" and "oh but theyre going to solve it soon". And there's never any "oh sorry I was wrong, or oh sorry we miscalculated the complexity" it's just instantly forget everything you said and keep making more promises.

Autopilot has been driving on highway for those 7 years. Its a largely solve problem. The current program isn't highway driving. Its city driving. Its also largely solved.

This also pertains to anything in the world too. Knowledge about a specific system is extremely limited. People may know the name of Tesla, they may know the word computer, or the word AI, but the chances of them knowing about autoregressive transformers/diffusions, or knowing the difference between internet explorer/firefox/chrome, or knowing tesla autopilot is like finding a needle in the haystack.

Except it's the complete opposite, when Elon makes a false promise it's circulated in the media and absorbed into the popular culture before it even has a chance to exist, just look at the cybertruck. Its not something out of the world. Literally the technology exists, you dont need to believe in some crazy skepticism. You can test drive it and verify the claim if you so choose. Further you can lease a Tesla and rent a 1 month city self driving to test out the city driving capabilities. There's millions of self driving Tesla videos on youtube/twitter. You dont need to believe in a lie of your own making. You just need to experiment/verify yourself all the tools exists and aren't even that expensive

What do you think you're saying that I haven't already said, I even pointed out that it's the highway driving lane assist type stuff. The system isn't perfect as I've stated over and over and over again. But it does exists and it does 99% of the job just fine. Don't conflate a 99% working system with a 0% working system.
