is there a website that lists all the subdisciplines of mechanical engineering? I want to read on all of them just to see which one peaks my interest the most

>> No.15960786

Literally just get into a particular technology(fridges, cars, guns, hydraulics) and the rest will sort itself out.

idk why I picked mechanical engineering honestly, i hate cars because of muh walkable cities unironically, people just kept saying it has the widest coverage of all the engineerings. I do think propulsion is pretty cool THOUGH, but I heard propulsion engineering is very competitive

you sound more like a hvac guy

Run while you still can unless you want to be speccing bolts for the rest of your life

You could just go the control theory/mechatronics route and end up basically being an EE with half the math education.

get a meche/applied physics double major at only 2 extra semesters for your degree. You'll have the math + the hands on exp

I got a masters in CS after speccing bolts for a while. Now I just write CRUD apps but my salary is double

>You like science, study engineering!
I now do no science and make 3D models and argue with pajeets all day. Should have studied physics or chemistry

It’s piques, not peaks

Just accept you’re destined to be a 5 figure midwit the rest of your life

If you're in school get involved with clubs that build cars, robots, or rockets or some shit like that. Reading about something isn't really great exposure

Aerospace/fluids is the only subdiscipline that's actually interesting in current year. Everything else is either 200 years old or done better by other engineering fields.

>i hate cars because of muh walkable cities unironically
build trains, then. that's like the original mechanical engineering job.

the next step is doing a PhD in robotics my dudes. it's fun, you get to do basically whatever.

I forgot to mention robotics along with aerospace. I wish I'd gone into robotics instead of fluids desu.

Robotics is computer science, not ME. I got into robotics after getting my CS master's. All my colleagues are either CSmonkeys or EEs.

>> No.15961596

>>15961593
MechEs can also go into robotics. I'd assume they're pretty valuable because EE and CS people have no understanding of dynamics. Hell, CSmonkeys can barely do linear algebra.

>MechEs can also go into robotics
Well yes, I am one of those. I guess I wasn't clear in >>15961588 but I'm one of those people who went CS MSc after ME BEng.
