Even if an object absorbed every frequency of visible light, it would just appear black to us. A purely black object can be seen because there are nonblack things around it and behind it. The only way for something to be invisible would be for it to somehow perfectly bend the light around itself and project the exact color and pattern of whatever is behind it from the viewer's perspective at all times, which would be pretty silly for a raw, natural substance. Even our best stealth technologies can't quite do that effectively.
