Not all "beliefs" are "opinions".

Fuck off, your arrogance is dripping off your opening post already.

Ofcourse believing is part of human`s destiny.

How can a belief not be an opinion?

>> No.1593151

What's the difference between knowledge and true belief? I've heard it mentioned before that the two are not the same and I'm genuinely curious.

>> No.1593154

>>1593151
Plato said there's a third requirement for "knowledge", which is justifiability. Therefore, knowledge is a true and justified belief.

>How can a belief not be an opinion?
Justified true belief = knowledge
Opinions are either unjustified, or untrue.

Justified true belief isn't always a guarantee for knowledge. There is something like the Gettier problem.

What is this 'Gettier problem' you speak of?

>> No.1593219

>>1593187

Looked up the gettier problem. Looks kind of stupid, kind of like, you can never be 100% sure of anything. Theres always room for your "justification" to be false, no matter what the case.

Basically, I think its perfectly find to say knowledge is justified true belief

Of course you can't be 100% sure of anything. That's the sceptical hypothesis!

There is -almost- nothing wrong with justified true belief, the Gettier problem just points out that the definition isn't complete and prone to mistakes.
Try to see it as an motivation to keep your guard up and keep asking questions. After all, that's what real philosphy is all about: critical thinking.

>> No.1593275

justified true belief is post-hoc construction. useless metatheory for classification purposes mostly. part of why epistemology is boooring

The real fun is in metaphysics.
I've been saying it for years.

TRUUUTH LOL

science just proves "truths" within their formal systems, the so-called axiomatic truths. Its impossible to prove something that is outside from our systems. Mathematics is coherent most of the time, at least from our Human perspective. However, math has some structural weaknesses in their foundations, that led plenty of people into thinking how "true" are the axiomatic truths.

>>1593275
Exactly. The way knowledge is set up, you can't know that you know unless justification guarantees truth. Stupid.
